Responding to the challenges of access to care

The primary care sector is facing challenges such as territorial imbalance, an ageing population and the need for greater coordination of actors. To meet this need, we support local structures through solutions such as teleconsultation, training and the optimisation of patient pathways. Our comprehensive approach aims to improve access to care, strengthen coordination and ensure quality care.

Presentation

The importance of primary care is well established.  They make it possible to quickly diagnose, well monitor chronically ill patients and pregnancies, to influence changes in behaviour and to identify wider problems within a family.

Our fields of action include, for example, the introduction of the use of teleconsultation, particularly in rural areas, from the supply of equipment to the support for the change that the introduction of a new use implies. Our expertise is based on a global approach that takes into account the medical, organizational, human, financial and regulatory aspects of primary care.

The primary care sector faces several major challenges, including:

  • The territorial imbalance in the level of access to care, with health professionals unevenly distributed across territories and numerous medical deserts that follow.
  • The ageing of populations and the resulting prevalence of chronic diseases, which require coordinated and long-term care from healthcare professionals.
  • Coordination between the actors of the health system which is becoming necessary in order to avoid breaks in the care pathways.

To meet these challenges, we work with ministries and embassies in countries where health infrastructure does not always allow the population to have access to primary care, by accompanying and supporting health professionals in local medical facilities.
