During the panel dedicated to the development of infrastructures to support the growth of the mining industry in Africa, C3Medical Consulting had the opportunity to share its feedback on the contribution of digital in the field of health.

Our belief: digital health can transform mining territories by improving access to healthcare for workers, their families and neighbouring communities while boosting the overall performance of sites.

Thanks to teleconsultation, teleradiology, AI-assisted diagnostics and the digitisation of patient records, it is possible to :

  • Compensate in part for the lack of specialised healthcare professionals;
  • Reduce costly and time-consuming travel;
  • Facilitate rapid access to high-quality care in remote areas;
  • Support companies in their ESG and CSR commitments.

To have a lasting impact, these services must be part of a structured approach:

1. Drawing up a health master plan that is consistent with the local area;

2. Deployment of a local training policy;

3. Setting up an appropriate health cover system;

4. Strengthened cooperation with governments and NGOs.

Conditions for success:

  • Alignment with national health policies;
  • Sustainable and co-constructed funding;
  • Community-based approach;
  • Monitoring by clear impact indicators ;
  • Integration into the CSR strategy of mining companies.

We would like to thank Pierre Masquart for moderating the panel, as well as Mzila Mthenjane, Yocoli Grace-Milca KONAN and Pepin Tchouate Heteu for the rich discussions.
